There are many reasons why a model engine does not work especially on a model railway which has not been used for a while.

On more complicated tracks it is best to connect where the power leads connect to the tracks as some sections may be switched of due to the way points(switches) are set.
The locomotive my fail for many minor reasons and it will usually be necessary to remove the powered chassis from the engine or tender.
Things to check are continuity from the wheels to the brush gear. This may be more difficult on engines fitted with DCC as you will have so many connections to play with and indiscriminate
use of the test meter may damage the DCC chip.
It is possible that if you repeat your question giving the description of the model involved that some one can give specific instructions.
There is an on-line forum. Soon after the New York (city) Toy Fair in February, they post photos of their items they hope to release later that year. Thus you can see that they are definitely in business because they are planning for Christmastime.

the best bachmann rolling stock cars are the silver series cars especailly the new flat cars with the loads on top of them!! now bachmnn are using thier ez mate spring loaded knuckle coulpers in most of their cars (the new versions) and locomotives by the way, thier locos with sound and the standard locos are nnnizeee man plus the new “dynamis” dcc system from bachmann
How do I re-assemble my Bachmann Model Train, Thomas?
One day, my little brother was courious, and took apart my Bachmann Thomas Model. I have tried to put it back together, but there are these small bronze/gold slivers that I think conduct electricity, and I don’t know where they go. I don’t want to send it in again, paying $15.00. How should I put my model back together?
I cannot get my 1976 bachmann HO style model train to work it tries to go but will not take off?
I am wondering if I should clean the tracks or just buy a new one.. I would hate 2 do that.
