What's All the Fuss About HO Trains?

More than two-thirds of model railroaders consider HO scale their favorite. Consider HO scale model trains for your next layout.
HO model railroads are small enough so that you can fit a lot of layout in a limited space, yet large enough to provide fine detail. HO is not so delicate that your youngster cannot play with it (my first set was HO), and there is little risk of small parts being damaged. HO scale provides an excellent balance between detail and space requirements.
Speaking of size, HO models are 1/87th the size of their prototype. This is half the size of 'O' scale, another scale made popular by the Lionel Train company. The track gauge (distance between rails) for HO is 16.5mm, which happens to be the same gauge as the 'OO' scale, popular in Great Britain.
Though HO trains are small, they are large enough to have quite a bit of detail, which is one of the reasons this scale is so popular. For the 'realistic' modeler, who wants exact scaling and realism, HO can't be beat.
Younger railroaders love the HO set they first got for Christmas. Not so heavy they can't be lifted by the youngster, and not so fragile they cannot take a bit of bumping around (but just a bit)!
Us older modelers find HO great to work with. As your budget of space grows (go ahead, take over the basement!) you can build vast layouts at this scale. Compared with the size of 'N', 'Z' or 'T' scales, HO is easy to work with, and still gives us plenty of layout to fill in. 'N' scale is roughly ½ the size of HO, and Z and T are even smaller. For the hobbyist who needs glasses, or perhaps has a bit of arthritis, HO is still quite manageable to work with, right down to the finest of detail.
HO being so popular, you can find any type of equipment for your layout, from locomotives and rolling stock to bridges, turntables, figures, scenery, buildings and more. While some build scenery and more from scratch, you can easily find kits that can be used either right out of the box, or combined (kitbashing) to make the exact building or scene that you want. If you have a specific railroad you want to model, you can probably find the exact locomotives and rolling stock you need, since manufacturers have produced just about every train ever built, from steam locomotives to the Japanese bullet train and the high speed 'Acela.'
If you are just starting out in model railroading, I recommend you consider HO for your layout. The balance of detail, amount of layout for a given space, cost, and availability of components makes HO an excellent choice for most of us. See you at the hobby shop!

G scale model trains are sometimes known as the Garden Variety trains, and these are not quite as widely used as you would think. They are very large, some of them measuring as long as seventeen inches.
The big question of course, is who are they most ideal for? They are called Garden Variety trains because they are large enough that they can be set up outside.
These beautiful trains can complement a garden very nicely so long as you have the proper track set up and are able to maintain it. Fortunately, all of the parts within the train are suitable for the outdoors.
All you will need to do is make sure that your train is clear of dust, debris, and anything that could hinder it's operation. Children will find that this type of train is excellent, namely because they'll be able to use it very easily.
The G scale model trains almost never derail and the parts are huge so they'll have no problem operating it. Basically purchasing a G scale will guarantee that you have a beautiful train set that everyone can see.
There are a few disadvantage to owning one of these, however, and we'll go over that now. First of all, as was mentioned before, this thing is huge!
You won't be able to put it on display in your basement unless your house is large enough to support it. That's perfectly fine if you were planning to put it outside, however.
The next problem is that there aren't quite as many accessories available for this train as there are for the others. Suffice to say, it hasn't been standardized like the others, so when you buy this train you'll be on your won as far as extras go.
If you love making things, then that's great, if not you'll want to go down a scale. If you want to have a high quality motor, then you will be paying quite a bit more than you would in any other type of model train.
This is fine if you're willing to pay a bit more money, but if you are on a budget, you'll want to consider something else. The parts in general are going to be a bit more expensive too since the G scale model trains aren't exactly commonplace in this hobby.
G scale model trains are a great choice if you want something beautiful that everyone can see, and that your children can play with. You'll have to be prepared to make a few sacrifices, but if you are comfortable with that then you should definitely consider picking up this type of train.
You are in luck, as there are many suppliers out there who sell the G scale model trains in many different shapes and types. Whatever your theme, you can buy that type of train.
So head out now and see what you can find; you can buy either online or in your local hobby shop. The choice is yours!

When my cousin reads this news, he is really attracted by that so called "noble game"---model train. Whats worse, the point lays on collecting the model train, of course with money, yet not manufactruing with experts hands and good ideas!
Undoubtedly, I pay a lot of money for quiet life to my cousion. Then, to everyone's surprise, this gay brings a G scale one coming home! I am really shocked by this huge locomotive, only shivering ask:"do you decide to bulldoze my apartment and pull down the fence building up your ‘big brother'?" Thanks to the kind-hearted shop keeper, we change for a smaller one, finally we save our house and don't have to sleep under the beautiful sky.
As you know, the nightmare is not over yet. This gay comes time and again, distubering my sweet dream asking some question about how to manage the railways, or the differences between engine and locomotive and so on. One time, he trys to throw out my bookcase just making a room for his new model train.
